Disabled Ramblers, who organise rides in the countryside for mobility scooter users have said they will no longer use the Downs Link and have called for a bridge to be built to make the route safe.

John Cuthbertson, Chairman of the national charity, said that although the Downs Link is an excellent route which they have used in the past for organised rambles there is now “no way” he would risk having people in his charge crossing the A281 at Rudgwick.

An entire user group have been completely deprived access to the Downs Link by the lack of a bridge.

“With today’s volume of traffic and the speed at which it flows, there is no way that we would risk crossing the A281 near Rudgwick. We offer our wholehearted support for a bridge to be built at this point.”
