The Bridge the Downs Link campaign was in the news again with a letter from Chair Hilary Jubert in the June edition of the All About Horsham magazine.
Hilary questioned both the validity of the feasibility study commissioned by West Sussex County Council (in particular the accuracy of the speed data quoted in the report) as well as WSCC’s contention that despite a bridge being their preferred option there was no business case for it.
“WSCC’s failed business case for the bridge appeared to be based on road safety alone. It did not take into account the huge potential for health and fitness, mental wellbeing and the environment, free at the point of use, that a safe Downs Link would unlock.”
The campaign is calling for economic case for a bridge to be properly considered: “We would like to see further parallel studies into a bridge and a Pegasus continue. This is the best way to reveal which is the most viable long term solution.”
Ben Morris, All About Horsham editor who has voiced his support for bridge also writes: “As someone who uses the Downs Link regularly I echo your concerns.”
