The Bridge the Downs Link campaign was featured in the February bulletin of Cycling UK’s monthly campaign newsletter. The fight for a safe crossing of the A281 has now reached a national audience in a newsletter that is seen by thousands of people.
The Bridge the Downs Link campaign was set up following the death of Pathushan Sutharsan in July 2020 as he attempted to cross the road on a charity bike ride.
The feasibility study commissioned following Pathushan’s death into how to make the crossing safe has now been delivered to West Sussex County Council. While the council consider their next move we understand that a bridge is the preferred option, and is clearly the only one that meets the coroner’s request to WSCC that they take action “to prevent future deaths”.
Our concern remains however that WSCC will instead choose a sub-standard option.
You can support the campaign by writing to your local County councillor, displaying one of our posters and signing up for email updates.
